Late summer and autumn. Perhaps the most beautiful time of year in the Allgäu mountains. How wonderful it is when the leaves on the deciduous trees turn a riot of colours and golden October, with its play of colours, invites you out for another hike. Then a touch of nostalgia gradually sets in; the sun loses its strength, the days become noticeably shorter, and fruit and vegetables are harvested. During the ‘Viehscheid’, the animals return to the valley after their summer pastures on the Alps. The Alpine pastures are prepared for winter, and down in the valleys too, people
prepare for the quiet time of regeneration. Wafts of mist drift evocatively over the streams, rivers and lakes, conjuring up a fascinating atmosphere. After outdoor activities in the refreshing air, which may already smell of snow, it’s time to retreat: to cosy, warm rooms, with a hot cup of tea or coffee, a slice of cake, a good book and a cosy woollen blanket. Time to treat yourself: have a sauna and a dip at Aquaria, or enjoy a massage, for example.
